The Anointing Called Joy

Hebrews 1:9 NKJV
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.

What if I told you Jesus was the happiest guy that ever walked the earth? Would you believe me? Consider this verse;

Hebrews 1:9 CEV
You loved justice and hated evil, and so I, your God, have chosen you. I appointed you and made you happier than any of your friends.

What made Jesus such a happy guy? Our theme scripture says that God anointed him. Happiness, real happiness, is a result of the anointing poured out on a man. One of the clear signs of the anointing is joy and gladness, and our theme scripture shows us how Jesus got it.

Consider the word, therefore. It means whatever comes after it results from what comes before it. Our theme scripture starts by explaining that Jesus loved righteousness. Now, in Psalms 119:160, God's Word is defined as righteous: in fact, Paul shows us that in the Word of Christ, which is the Gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed (Romans 1:17). Here is what I'm saying, when you are a lover of God's Word, you are a lover of righteousness. Jesus was a lover of the Word. By age 12, He was spending days in the temple learning the Word - and I would like to submit that that resulted in the oil of exultant joy and gladness. It didn't matter what environment you found Jesus in; He would be the happiest guy there.

Here is the point I have been trying to get to: in John 15:11, while speaking to the disciples, Jesus says, "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full."

Do you see it? Jesus didn't keep His joy to Himself; He shared it with His disciples. He gave them that joy that would make them happier than anyone, and He did that through Words. No wonder Paul was busy singing at the top of his voice while he was in prison: he was a man of the Word. Every time you hear the Word of Christ, you invite joy into your life. May you receive the strength to tarry in the Word to the end that there can never be a dull moment with you around!
