Stay Far From Lies

Exodus 23:7
Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked. - NKJV

Earlier this year, a pastor friend approached me to share an interesting message he'd received from one of his disciples. The disciple had posted a quote from a message I had preached - and in response, one of his acquaintances said, "I see you're following Isaac. Be careful, He's using witchcraft." That was the funniest message I saw that day. I had to ask for a screenshot to document my increasing influence. (That's the part where you laugh). But isn't that how the world operates? Look up any preacher on YouTube, and you're likely to find a lot of accusations and lies peddled against them.

It's amazing that in forming a nation and giving laws that would preserve it until Christ comes, one of the things God asked them to do was keep far from a false matter. In Ephesians 4:25, Paul encourages the church to put lying far from themselves and speak the truth each with his neighbor. Why is it such a big deal? Because just as the nature of God is love, the nature of the devil is falsehood - and when a person enjoys falsehood, they identify with the wrong nature. And that's what Jesus told the Pharisees,

John 8:44
You are of your father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies." - NASB 1995.

The NKJV says he speaks from his own resources. That means any lie, no matter what kind, is drawn from the resources of the devil: it's his nature. It may look like a fact, but there's no truth in the devil. You see now why God tells us to keep away from falsehood.

What does this mean for you? Anytime you see an accusation, especially against those of the household of faith, stay clear of it. Exodus 23:1 encourages us to refrain from even circulating it in our social circles. God knew! Only the Word of God is truth; stick to that, draw your conclusions from there, and the Spirit of God will preserve you!
