Ephesians 6:2-3 NKJV “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
I have developed a theory on honor based on my understanding of money. Mike Murdock says that money is a reward for solving problems. According to the law of time by author and pastor Sunday Adelaja, rich people convert their time into tangible services and products. So, that means that every shilling you have can be attached to a certain amount of time. Let’s say it takes you five days to make one million shillings. If you give me UGX 200,000, you have just given me the equivalent of your day in life. And not just any day which is idle and unproductive, but rather a working and productive day.
Your parents’ greatest gift to you is time, also known as life. That’s why your birthdays are celebrated in years and not kilograms. Their second greatest gift is success – raising you and training you to be successful in life. The one thing that represents both of these – time and success – is profit.
So, when you give your parents part of your profit, you are seeding back to them your time and success; the very thing that they desire the most for you. And that’s why the promise of honoring your father and mother is that you will live long (time) and that it will be well with you (success).
It is absolute foolishness to not honor your father and mother when there is such a great and precious promise attached to it. Honor is profit because treasure leads the heart. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:24). You cannot consistently honor your parents and be indifferent about them!
What if we completely refuse to accept this fact and all this presented evidence? Then we will make the word of God of no effect (see Mark 7:13)! This is such a bad state to be in. Can you imagine knowing the scriptures and all the promises in them and yet never being able to put them into practice? You can know a lot. Knowledge is not the problem.
The issue is, are you able to convert? All that stuff you quote from the Bible, where is the evidence in your life? Could it be that you have made God’s word of no effect (null, void, cancelled) in your life by neglecting this important principle?
